Karnataka panel warns medical colleges against collecting unauthorized admission fees

The Admission Overseeing Committee in Karnataka has cautioned medical colleges against collecting unauthorized charges from students during undergraduate and postgraduate admissions.

Committee Chairman Justice Ramachandra D Huddar said complaints had been received alleging that some medical colleges were demanding university fees from students even though the amount had already been paid to the Karnataka Examinations Authority (KEA) during the seat allotment process.

According to the committee, the KEA had directly transferred the university fee to the Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences.

The committee also alleged that certain institutions were collecting caution money deposits and other charges that are not permitted under the consensual agreement signed between the state government and medical colleges.

As per the agreement, colleges are allowed to collect only a Skill Lab fee of ₹30,000 and a miscellaneous fee of ₹15,000, the statement issued by Huddar said.

The Admission Overseeing Committee has urged students facing such demands, or those who have already paid university fees, caution deposits, or other unauthorized charges, to approach the committee for grievance redressal.
