Students at Jodhpur’s Mugneeram Bangur Memorial (MBM) University were left stunned this week after discovering they had scored over 100 marks in a 100-mark exam — with some results showing an astonishing 137.

The bizarre error surfaced when first-year mechanical engineering students received their results for an exam held in May. According to university officials, several students out of the 800 who took the test were shown to have scored between 103 and 137 marks in practical and sessional papers.

The inflated results were uploaded on October 7 but quickly taken down within an hour after students flagged the discrepancies.

Exam Controller Anil Gupta attributed the incident to a “technical problem” affecting all 800 students. “The team has corrected the marks and sent them to the technical department for re-uploading,” he said, confirming that revised results were published on Saturday.

However, the error has triggered widespread criticism and protests. The National Students’ Union of India (NSUI) submitted a memorandum to the Vice-Chancellor, accusing the university of gross negligence.

“This is sheer carelessness that has damaged the reputation of the university,” said NSUI district president Bablu Solanki. “The Vice-Chancellor has assured us that action will be taken within three days — failing which, we will launch statewide protests.” he added.

The controversy has sparked debate over the reliability of automated result systems in higher education, with students demanding greater transparency and accountability in examination processes.
