The Indira Gandhi National Institute of Open University (IGNOU) has announced the launch of a new program called Master of Business Administration in Health Care and Hospital Management. This program is designed for graduates with a minimum of 50 percent marks (45 percent for candidates from reserved categories as per the Government of India's norms).
The primary objective of the program is to produce a skilled workforce equipped for employment in healthcare institutions, affiliated organizations, and both public and private hospitals. IGNOU's initiative aims to offer effective support and ensure high-quality healthcare services across the nation, including in remote areas, stated in the press release.

Upon successful completion of the program, students can qualify for managerial and administrative positions within healthcare institutions or related organizations. The fee structure is as follows: Rs 15,500 for the 1st and 2nd semesters, Rs 19,500 for the 3rd semester, and Rs 17,500 for the 4th semester, paid on a semester basis.
The comprehensive program comprises 112 credits spread over four semesters. The first and second semesters consist of seven core courses, each with four credits, while the third and fourth semesters offer specialized courses. Notably, the third semester requires students to undertake a project and participate in a practical course, which involves gaining hands-on experience in a hospital or healthcare institution. Furthermore, students are expected to complete a three-month internship in a healthcare-associated institution or hospital, as per their preference.
According to a statement from the press release, the program equips students with theoretical knowledge and practical skills to apply a scientific approach to managing people, materials, finances, and communication, as well as organizing work and managing resources. Additionally, the following are some of the expected learning outcomes upon completion of the course.
Acquisition of modern management techniques such as inventory control, economic order quantity (EOQ), operational research, organizational development, and management information systems.
Development of problem-solving and decision-making abilities in the context of hospital management, including the utilization of biostatistics in planning and medico-administrative research.
