Indian Army launches paid internship program 2026-27 for students in AI, defence technologies

The Indian Army has opened applications for the second edition of the Indian Army Internship Programme (IAIP) 2026-27, offering paid internship opportunities to students in technology, management, and defence-related fields.

The internship program aims to provide participants with practical exposure to emerging technologies, hands-on learning opportunities, and experience working on projects connected to the defence ecosystem. Applications are being accepted through the National Internship Portal for positions based in New Delhi.

Under IAIP 2026-27, selected candidates will undergo a 75-day internship comprising 60 days of practical training and office-based work, followed by 15 days of work-from-home.

Interns who successfully complete the program and meet all requirements will receive a stipend of up to ₹75,000. The final amount will depend on attendance during the internship period and will be released after completion of the program.

The internships will be conducted in New Delhi/NCR, and selected candidates will have to arrange their own accommodation, as the program does not provide lodging facilities.

The Indian Army is offering internships across the following domains:

  • Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning
  • Cyber Security and Ethical Hacking
  • Quantum Computing and Cryptography
  • Drones and Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs)
  • Robotics and Autonomous Systems
  • Space and Satellite Technologies
  • Advanced Weapon Systems and Defence Electronics
  • 5G/6G and Communication Technologies
  • Financial Technology (FinTech)
  • Strategic Communication and Mass Media
  • Human Resource Management
  • Operational Logistics

Several project-based internship roles have been listed on the National Internship Portal. These include AI and ML Intern, AI-enabled workflow automation and digital transformation, AI engineer for large language models and intelligent AI assistants, and AI-based legal document generator.

Other roles include AI model for decision support systems, data analyst, software development, robotics research, drone and UAV assessment, space domain awareness, SAP ERP ECC technology, legal case digitization, and financial management software development.

Application deadlines differ depending on the project, with several internship opportunities closing between Aug 1 and Aug 15, 2026. Some positions have already closed.

Students can apply for multiple internship opportunities but can accept only one offer. Applicants are advised to select the opportunity that best matches their academic background, skills, and career interests before confirming acceptance.

The Indian Army has clarified that the internship program does not provide placement assistance or guarantee employment after completion. The initiative is focused on skill development, mentorship from defence professionals, and exposure to technology-driven projects related to national security.

Participants who complete the internship successfully will receive a certificate and gain practical experience by working with Indian Army professionals and subject matter experts.
