The programs offer practical, lab-based training in software and cybersecurity, featuring flexible online delivery, real-world projects, expert faculty, and certification for professionals, students, and educators across India.

The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bombay has launched two new professional certificate programs in software development and cybersecurity to meet the rising demand for skilled tech professionals across the country.
Offered through the Trust Lab at IIT Bombay, these industry-oriented programs are open to working professionals, faculty members, and students nationwide.

The initiative is aimed at addressing the persistent talent gap in India's tech sector by equipping learners with practical, application-driven skills.
To meet the growing shortage of software developers, the Software Development program offers a flexible and hands-on learning experience.
"The program moves beyond theory and places emphasis on real-world skills through weekly lab-based exercises," the institute said.
The curriculum starts with core web technologies like UNIX, HTML, CSS, and JavaScript and progresses to advanced full-stack development using frameworks such as PHP, MERN (MongoDB, Express.js, React, Node.js), and Django with React.
Additional modules include software testing, CI/CD pipelines, and future topics like cloud computing and system programming.
Participants can enroll in individual courses and must complete at least three within a two-year window to earn the Professional Certificate.
Admissions are based on academic transcripts, a statement of purpose, and recommendations, rather than a centralized process.
With India’s cybersecurity industry projected to reach USD 7.23 billion by 2029, the second certificate program is designed to fill the widening skills gap in this critical area.
The curriculum includes hands-on training in identifying threats, building defense mechanisms, and managing security incidents.
Key offerings in the cybersecurity track include Real World Cryptography, beginning Sept 1, which focuses on encryption, digital signatures, and secure key exchange, and Network Security, starting Jan 2, 2026, which addresses internet protocol layer attacks and modern defense techniques.
Courses run for 12 to 14 weeks and are delivered online, featuring pre-recorded lectures, live weekend tutorials, and TA-supported lab sessions. Learners can also choose to participate in on-campus activities and attend physical classes.
Eligibility includes industry professionals with a degree in engineering or computer science, third- and fourth-year undergraduates, postgraduates, and faculty in related fields.
Fees vary by course and applicant category. For software development courses, fees range from ₹19,000 to ₹36,000, while cybersecurity modules are priced between ₹36,000 and ₹72,000.
Participants pay per course and receive a certificate upon completion. The full Professional Certificate is awarded after completing any three courses within two years.
Applications for both programs close on Aug 25. More information is available on the official IIT Bombay Trust Lab website.
