The collaboration will support joint research, technology development, academic exchanges, and capacity-building initiatives while providing students and researchers with exposure to defense innovation and maritime security.

The Indian Navy has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Indian Institute of Technology (BHU), Varanasi to jointly advance research, technology development, and the indigenization of cutting-edge naval technologies.
The agreement was signed at the Naval Headquarters in New Delhi by Vice Admiral B Sivakumar, AVSM, VSM, COM, Indian Navy, and Prof Rajesh Kumar, Dean (Research and Development), IIT (BHU), in the presence of senior officials from both organizations.

According to the Indian Navy, the collaboration is intended to integrate academic expertise with defense research to support the development of indigenous technologies for India's maritime sector.
As part of the partnership, the two institutions will undertake joint research projects, technology development initiatives, academic collaborations, faculty and student exchanges, and capacity-building programs.
The initiative will also provide students and researchers with opportunities to contribute to projects focused on advanced naval technologies.
The Navy said the collaboration aligns with the vision of Aatmanirbhar Bharat by promoting innovation and encouraging the development of home-grown defense technologies.
Officials said the MoU reflects the Navy's continued efforts to deepen engagement with leading academic institutions across the country.
By combining research capabilities with operational defense requirements, the partnership seeks to accelerate technological innovation and address emerging maritime security challenges.
The collaboration is also expected to give IIT (BHU) students and researchers greater exposure to defense research while enabling the Indian Navy to benefit from academic expertise in developing next-generation technologies.
The Indian Navy has been expanding partnerships with premier educational institutions in recent years to strengthen research, innovation, and skill development in critical technology domains.
The latest agreement with IIT (BHU) is aimed at further advancing indigenous defense research and technological self-reliance.
