Teen dies after being knifed by Class 8 student; anger spills onto streets as parents as ABVP workers storm school.
Ahmedabad was gripped by outrage on August 20 after a Class 10 student, stabbed by a junior during a scuffle outside school, succumbed to his injuries. The death of 15-year-old Nayan sparked angry protests by parents and community members outside the Seventh-Day Adventist Higher Secondary School in Khokhra, where the incident took place.
According to police, the altercation unfolded soon after classes ended on August 20 afternoon. As students streamed out, Nayan was confronted by a group of juniors. Heated words quickly escalated into violence when a Class 8 boy pulled out a knife and stabbed him before fleeing.
CCTV footage shows the injured teenager clutching his stomach and staggering back into the school premises before collapsing. He was rushed to a private hospital in Maninagar, but could not be saved.
Police said the accused minor was later apprehended after a security guard spotted him attempting to escape through the rear of the school. An FIR has been registered, and the boy was booked under sections of attempt to murder before Nayan’s death was confirmed. Authorities have also collected CCTV footage and student testimonies.
Tensions peaked on August 20 morning as hundreds of parents and Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) activists gathered at the school, demanding accountability. The protest turned violent, with demonstrators allegedly vandalising property and attacking staff.
State Education Minister Prafulbhai Panseriya, expressing condolences to Nayan’s family, appealed for calm. He assured parents of swift justice and suggested a study into the rise of juvenile crimes, blaming exposure to violent games and social media for “planting a criminal mindset” in children.
As grief and fury sweep Ahmedabad, the shocking incident has reignited debate on campus safety, juvenile delinquency, and the failure of schools to prevent escalating violence among students.
