The collaboration aims to equip urologists with hands-on training in the UroLift System for treating BPH, enhancing patient care through minimally invasive techniques and clinical education in India.
In a significant move to advance medical training and improve patient care, Teleflex Incorporated (NYSE: TFX), a global leader in medical technology, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Fortis Hospitals Bengaluru to establish the UroLift Center of Education in India.
This partnership comes as Teleflex reports that 500 patients in India have been treated with its UroLift System, a minimally invasive procedure designed to address benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH).
Fortis Hospitals has treated approximately 100 of those patients, making it the first hospital in the country to reach this milestone.
The UroLift System is a non-surgical approach that offers rapid symptom relief for BPH without heating, cutting, or removing prostate tissue.
The procedure helps preserve sexual function and typically does not require a catheter post-treatment. BPH, a condition common among aging men, is often associated with disrupted sleep, urinary issues, depression, and reduced quality of life.
"At Teleflex, we believe that education is the foundation of progress in healthcare. Our collaboration with Fortis Hospitals will empower medical professionals with advanced knowledge and hands-on training, ultimately improving patient care," said Arun Kaushik, Managing Director, South Asia, Teleflex.
Dr Ashutosh Raghuvanshi, MD & CEO of Fortis Healthcare Limited, emphasized the hospital’s focus on innovation and patient-centered care.
"The healthcare landscape continues to evolve, and more minimally invasive therapies continue to emerge. At Fortis, we always strive to offer superior technologies to our patients. This educational initiative in association with Teleflex is another testament to our commitment to quality patient care," he said.
Dr Mohan Keshavamurthy, Principal Director of Renal Sciences at Fortis Hospitals, Bengaluru, added, "Through this collaboration, we are committed to helping urologists acquire the requisite skill to optimize individualized treatment solutions such as UROLIFT for patients requiring endoscopic surgical solutions for BPH and enhancing outcomes thereof. The program is designed to provide a comprehensive training program to urologists to ensure careful selection and safe delivery of the UroLift System to patients in their practice."
Training under this initiative will be conducted at Fortis Hospitals, Bannerghatta Road, Bengaluru, aiming to equip urologists across the region with specialized skills and improve outcomes for BPH patients in India.
