Delhi govt orders thrice-weekly school inspections to tighten academic oversight

The Delhi government has begun a new monitoring drive in its schools, directing senior education officials to carry out inspections three days a week to track academic outcomes, infrastructure needs, and classroom functioning.

Officials have been told to conduct these checks every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, starting in the morning.

Under the schedule, officers will visit different schools in their zone on the first two days and cover the remaining institutions on Friday.

After each visit, they must send a detailed account of their findings to the district commissioner.

"During these visits, officers will assess the overall condition of basic facilities, review efforts to reduce school bag weight, and verify the proper implementation of initiatives such as Neem, NIPUN schools, national programs, and the science of learning framework," an official said. MCD-run schools are not part of the plan.

The checks will look closely at teaching practices, student learning, health and hygiene, bonus point systems, and teachers' bio-attendance.

Officers are expected to spend a minimum of 15 minutes inside classrooms to review teaching quality.

They are also required to confirm the presence of teachers and students and examine facilities, including libraries, sports areas, laboratories, playgrounds, and drinking water systems.

All observations must be documented in detail, highlighting strong areas, gaps, and urgent issues.

The final inspection report must be submitted to the Director of Education within two days.

Once the reports reach the department, the findings will be examined immediately so that any required action or follow-up steps can be taken without delay.
