Pausha Putrada Ekadashi 2025 falls on December 30, highlighting religious and cultural traditions

Pausha Putrada Ekadashi, one of the important observances in the Hindu calendar, was observed across India on 30 December 2025, with rituals and fasting continuing until 31 December. Dedicated to Lord Vishnu, the day holds deep religious and cultural significance, particularly for devotees seeking family well-being, peace, and prosperity.
The term Putrada literally means “giver of progeny.” According to Hindu belief, observing this Ekadashi with devotion is associated with blessings related to children, familial harmony, and spiritual merit. Pausha Putrada Ekadashi is especially significant for married couples and householders, distinguishing it from other Ekadashis that are more commonly observed by ascetics.

Scriptural texts such as the Bhavishya Purana highlight the importance of this Ekadashi, linking it to the worship of Lord Vishnu and Goddess Lakshmi. Devotees believe that sincere observance helps cleanse past sins and strengthens moral and spiritual values within the family.
On this occasion, devotees observed day-long fasting, recited Vishnu Sahasranama, and performed special pujas at temples and homes. Many broke their fast on Dwadashi (31 December) after offering prayers and food to Brahmins or the needy.

Temples dedicated to Lord Vishnu witnessed increased footfall, while families gathered for prayers, storytelling, and religious discourses. In several regions, community kitchens and charitable activities were also organised.
The observance of Pausha Putrada Ekadashi underscores the continued relevance of India’s intangible cultural heritage, even in modern urban settings. Such festivals strengthen community bonds, promote shared values, and reflect India’s pluralistic religious traditions.
As India balances rapid modernisation with cultural continuity, traditional observances like Putrada Ekadashi remain an important part of the country’s social and spiritual fabric.
