Participating organisations: carried out by NCRTC, a joint venture between the Indian government and the states of Delhi, Haryana, Rajasthan, and Uttar Pradesh that is overseen administratively by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs.

Goals:

  • Increase NCR commuter mobility.
  • Encourage green transit, urban integration, and decongestion.
  • Encourage domestic rail manufacturing to support the Make in India campaign.

Important attributes:

Fast: Runs at 160 km/h, with an average speed of about 100 km/h.

Smart coaches: outfitted with dynamic route displays, CCTV, automatic doors, and Wi-Fi.

Energy-efficient systems like regenerative brakes are environmentally friendly.

April 2024 saw the first train roll out at the Rail Coach Factory in Kapurthala.
