What Is It?

  • Using geo-tagged data, IoT, and AI technologies, Depot Darpan is a mobile app and digital monitoring site that allows for real-time supervision of food grain depots.
  • Food & Public Distribution Ministry of Consumer Affairs launched it.
  • The goal is to use scientific warehousing to modernise and digitise India's food storage infrastructure, improving food safety, efficiency, and transparency.

Important attributes:

Real-time monitoring uses CCTV and Internet of Things sensors to keep tabs on financial KPIs, operational effectiveness, and infrastructure.

Geo-Tagged Auditing: Depot managers submit geo-tagged infrastructure data that has been verified by third-party audits and supervisory officers.

Automated Ratings & Feedback: A composite scoring model is used to assign warehouses star ratings based on operational and infrastructure performance.

Smart Tech Integration: Contains temperature and humidity sensors, fire hazard detection, and CO₂ and phosphine gas monitoring.

AI-Based Tools: To track the movements of individuals and vehicles, pilots use Face Recognition Systems (FRS), Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR), and bag counting.

Broad Coverage: Includes 2,278 warehouses owned by state/private organisations, FCI, and CWC.

Support for mobile apps allows supervisory officials to do performance reviews while on the go and create automated reports for timely action.

Importance:

  • Promotes Food Security: Assures that food grains given to more than 80 crore recipients under the National Food Security Act (NFSA) are stored in a quality manner.
