Strategic Partnership Strengthens India’s Chip Manufacturing Ambitions

Tata Electronics has finalised a significant agreement with Intel, making the US tech giant a major customer for the company’s upcoming semiconductor fabrication and assembly–testing facilities in India.
This partnership marks one of the most high-profile customer commitments secured by an Indian semiconductor manufacturer since the country began aggressively pushing its chip-ecosystem mission.
The agreement represents a breakthrough for India’s semiconductor self-reliance goals, aligning with the government’s Semiconductor Mission (ISM) and large-scale incentives to establish chip fabs and ATMP units.

Having a global leader like Intel onboard enhances the credibility of India’s domestic chip production capabilities.
India currently imports more than 90% of its semiconductor needs.
A strong domestic customer pipeline — anchored by Intel — will help:
The collaboration is expected to drive:

With major semiconductor companies diversifying production outside East Asia, India’s partnership with Intel signals its growing integration into the global high-tech supply chain.
It strengthens India’s positioning as a reliable manufacturing hub amid global efforts to de-risk semiconductor supply networks.
Tata Electronics’ agreement with Intel is a major milestone in India’s semiconductor journey. It enhances domestic manufacturing, bolsters strategic autonomy in critical technologies, and propels India closer to becoming a global semiconductor production hub in the coming decade.
