Sharing digital identity and payment platforms to strengthen inclusive global development

India has expanded its digital public infrastructure (DPI) cooperation by offering support to partner countries in adopting platforms such as digital identity systems and digital payment networks. Drawing on its own experience with scalable and low-cost digital solutions, India aims to assist developing nations in building inclusive, efficient, and transparent digital ecosystems.
Digital public infrastructure has played a transformative role in India by improving service delivery, financial inclusion, and governance efficiency. By sharing technical expertise and best practices, India seeks to enable partner countries to leapfrog traditional development constraints. Digital identity systems can enhance access to public services, while interoperable payment platforms can promote cashless transactions and formalisation of economies.

This initiative carries significant importance for South–South cooperation. Unlike traditional aid-based models, India’s approach focuses on capacity-building and knowledge sharing tailored to local needs. It reinforces the principle of mutual benefit and solidarity among developing countries, strengthening collective self-reliance in the Global South.
Digital inclusion is another key outcome of this cooperation. Affordable and interoperable digital platforms can bring marginalised populations into the formal financial and administrative system, reducing leakages and improving access to welfare services. Such inclusion supports broader goals of social equity and economic participation.
Strategically, the expansion of DPI cooperation enhances India’s soft-power diplomacy. By positioning itself as a provider of practical, people-centric digital solutions, India strengthens its global profile and deepens long-term partnerships. The initiative reflects India’s growing role in shaping inclusive and technology-driven development pathways worldwide.
