The growing use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in governance has sparked debates around ethics, transparency, and citizen rights. AI systems are increasingly deployed for public service delivery, welfare targeting, law enforcement, and administrative decision-making. While these technologies promise efficiency and cost-effectiveness, they also raise critical ethical concerns.
Algorithmic bias is a major issue: AI models trained on incomplete or skewed data may perpetuate social inequalities or reinforce discrimination, affecting vulnerable groups. Data privacy is another concern, as the collection and processing of personal information by AI systems can expose citizens to surveillance risks and misuse of sensitive data. Moreover, questions of state accountability emerge when decisions are delegated to automated systems, creating challenges in tracing responsibility for errors or harm.

To address these concerns, several governance measures are essential:
The deployment of AI in governance presents tremendous opportunities for efficiency and innovation but must be carefully balanced with ethical responsibility. Transparent practices, robust regulatory frameworks, and grievance redressal mechanisms are critical to ensuring AI serves citizens fairly, safeguards rights, and strengthens trust in public institutions.
