Commemorating Bhopal Gas Tragedy victims while reinforcing industrial safety and environmental responsibility

National Pollution Control Day is observed annually on 2 December to commemorate the victims of the 1984 Bhopal Gas Tragedy, one of the worst industrial disasters in history. The tragedy, caused by a gas leak from the Union Carbide pesticide plant in Bhopal, claimed thousands of lives and caused long-term health and environmental consequences. The day serves as a solemn reminder of the importance of industrial safety, pollution prevention, and accountability in the management of hazardous chemicals.
The observance emphasizes three key priorities:

National Pollution Control Day is both a memorial and a call to action. It commemorates the victims of the Bhopal disaster while reinforcing the ongoing need for robust environmental governance, industrial vigilance, and sustainable practices. The day serves as a reminder that preventive measures, strict compliance, and community awareness are essential to avoid repeating the mistakes of the past and to ensure a safer, healthier environment for future generations.
