Regarding the Governing Council of NITI Aayog:

What Is It?

The Governing Council serves as the highest policy-making entity of NITI Aayog, promoting cooperative federalism by uniting the Centre and States.

Participants:

Chair: Prime Minister of India

Members by Virtue of Office: Union Ministers

Permanent Members: Chief Ministers from all States and Union Territories with legislatures

Lieutenant Governors of Union Territories

Vice Chairperson, Permanent Members of NITI Aayog

Nominated Special Invitees

Functions:

  • Address national development challenges and synchronize State objectives with national ambitions.
  • Encourage collaboration on issues that span different sectors and departments.
  • Assess advancements on key projects such as Viksit Bharat@2047.
  • Establish a platform for collaborative policy development and decentralized planning.
  • Organize follow-ups and execute meeting results.

Concerning NITI Aayog:

Founded: January 1, 2015, taking the place of the Planning Commission.

  • Oversee and assess the execution of national initiatives.
  • Encourage creativity, digital transformation, and data-driven administration.
  • Develop extended strategic plans similar to the Strategy for New India @75.
  • Promote the exchange of information between states and worldwide best practices.
