In a proactive move towards fostering a safe and respectful workplace environment, the Internal Complaint Committee (ICC) of Aligarh Muslim University Centre, Malappuram, orchestrated a comprehensive awareness session on the Prevention of Sexual Harassment (POSH) Act on March 23. The event, marked by insightful discussions and engaging presentations, aimed at enlightening participants about the legal framework and mechanisms essential for combating sexual harassment within the workplace.
The inaugural address by Dr. Faisal K.P, Director of AMU Centre, Malappuram, underscored the paramount importance of addressing sexual harassment issues and nurturing an environment conducive to respect and dignity. Dr. Faisal lauded the efforts of the ICC in spearheading initiatives aimed at disseminating crucial documents such as the ICC's Standard Operating Procedure (SOP), the POSH Act, and a handbook for stakeholders.
Mrs. Sruthi T. M., Women Protection Officer, Malappuram, delivered the keynote address, providing valuable insights into the legal intricacies and practical implications of the POSH Act. Emphasizing the pivotal role of institutional mechanisms like the ICC, Mrs. Sruthi stressed their significance in upholding women's rights and ensuring a harassment-free workplace.
Dr. Naseema P.K., presiding officer of the ICC, elucidated the committee's mission and its commitment to nurturing a culture of respect and dignity within the institution. The main session, enriched by discussions and presentations led by Mr. Asif, a 4th-year law student, and his team, delved into the provisions of the POSH Act, engaging participants in meaningful dialogue. Coordinators from various departments highlighted the necessity of interdisciplinary collaboration in effectively addressing sexual harassment issues.
Mr. Mohd. Ahazam Khan, Assistant Registrar of AMU Centre, Malappuram, reaffirmed the institution's unwavering commitment to maintaining a harassment-free environment conducive to learning and growth.
An interactive session provided attendees with the opportunity to pose questions, share experiences, and seek clarification on various aspects related to the POSH Act. Additionally, the ICC organized a quiz based on the circulated materials and the content covered during the awareness session, witnessing enthusiastic participation from 103 faculty, non-teaching staff, and students.
The vote of thanks was delivered by Mr. Ahmad Bilal, Gender Champion of the ICC, expressing gratitude to all participants for their active engagement and commitment to promoting a culture of respect and inclusivity within the institution.
The event served as a testament to AMU Centre, Malappuram's proactive stance in addressing issues of sexual harassment and fostering a conducive environment where every individual feels safe, respected, and empowered.
