Aaryan Shukla: Class 9 Math Prodigy Breaks Guinness Record
Aaryan Shukla, a Class 9 student from Delhi Public School Nashik, achieved a remarkable feat by setting a Guinness World Record for the 'fastest time to mentally add 50 five-digit numbers'. His astounding record of 25.19 seconds was accomplished on the Italian TV show, Lo Show Dei Record, held in Milan, Italy on February 29, 2024.
Apart from his Guinness World Record, Shukla has garnered accolades for his exceptional talent in mental mathematics. With a penchant for numbers and mental calculations, Shukla began learning abacus at the tender age of six, igniting his passion for mental math. Drawing from techniques learned from abacus and Vedic mathematics, Shukla continually refines his skills to enhance his speed and accuracy, customizing rules to suit the demands of various mathematical problems.
His journey to mathematical excellence has seen him excel on national and international platforms, participating in various Olympiads on mathematics and science. At the Memoriad Turkey Open Championship 2018 in Istanbul, Turkey, Shukla clinched 10 medals, including seven golds, setting a record for the highest number of medals won in a single competition at the Memoriad. In 2022, he emerged as the World Champion at the Mental Calculation World Cup in Paderborn, Germany, at the age of 12.
Reflecting on his experiences, Shukla recalls the thrill of representing India in international competitions, from the less pressured atmosphere of his first international competition in Turkey to the intense competition at the Mental Calculation World Cup in Germany. Despite the challenges, Shukla's dedication to his craft and unwavering support from his school, DPS Nashik, have propelled him to unprecedented success.
Shukla's achievements shed light on the importance of nurturing talent and providing opportunities for students to excel beyond conventional boundaries. As he continues his academic journey, Shukla remains committed to his passion for mental math, aspiring to make significant contributions to the field in the future.
