Cold weather prompts school shutdowns and safety measures in UP

A sharp drop in temperatures and persistent fog have disrupted normal life across Uttar Pradesh, leading authorities to impose emergency measures as visibility deteriorated and safety risks increased.

Dense fog has been reported in several districts, particularly in Noida and surrounding areas, where visibility levels have fallen sharply.

In response to the worsening conditions, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has ordered the closure of all schools up to Class 12 across the state until Jan 1, 2026.

The directive applies uniformly to ICSE, CBSE, and UP Board schools. The CM also directed senior officials to remain on alert and monitor conditions through regular field inspections.

Noida has been among the worst-affected areas, with thick fog blanketing the city since late Sunday evening. Visibility on key routes, including the Noida Greater Noida Expressway, has dropped sharply.

Conditions on the Yamuna Expressway have been more severe, with near-zero visibility reported at multiple locations.

Aligning with the state order, the Noida district administration announced a school holiday from Dec 29 to Jan 1 to ensure student safety amid the cold wave and hazardous road conditions.

The chief minister has also instructed district authorities to strengthen relief measures for vulnerable populations.

As cold wave conditions continue across the state, authorities have intensified efforts to protect public health and safety.

Residents have been advised to limit travel during periods of dense fog, remain alert to official advisories, and use night shelters during extreme cold.
