Bomb threats force evacuation of several Delhi schools

Bomb threats sparked panic across several Delhi schools on Sept 20, forcing evacuations and prompting a large security response from police and bomb disposal teams.

Delhi Public School (DPS) Dwarka, Krishna Model Public School, and Sarvodaya Vidyalaya were among the institutions that received threatening calls. Search operations were launched immediately after authorities were alerted.

DPS Dwarka informed parents that the campus would remain closed for the day and examinations scheduled for Sept 20 had been deferred.

In a circular to families, the school said, “Dear Parents, Kindly note that the school will remain closed today, i.e., Saturday, 20 September 2025, due to unavoidable circumstances. All school buses and private vans/cabs are being sent back immediately.”

“Parents are requested to kindly be there at the stops to pick up their wards. Parents of private commuters must come to pick up their wards in case they have dropped them off at school. Midterm exams scheduled for the day stand postponed. Fresh dates will be intimated shortly,” the circular added.

Police officers confirmed that all students and staff from the affected schools were evacuated without incident.

This is not the first such scare this month. Earlier on Sept 9, the University College of Medical Sciences (UCMS) in east Delhi received a threat by email, leading to a full evacuation.

The bomb squad later declared the premises safe. On the same day, Maulana Azad Medical College (MAMC) and the Delhi Chief Minister’s Secretariat also reported similar messages.

According to DCP Nidhin Valsan, the email sent to MAMC’s dean mentioned possible blasts but lacked details. “A bomb squad was later dispatched to the site as a precaution,” he said.

While every incident so far has turned out to be a hoax, officials said each warning is being investigated thoroughly, with teams working to trace the origin of the calls and emails.
