The new residential schools aim to support economically weaker minority students by providing free education, hostel facilities, and a safe learning environment, encouraging continued enrollment at secondary and senior secondary levels.

The Bihar government has announced plans to set up two new residential schools for minority students, expanding free education and accommodation facilities in an effort to boost enrollment beyond the primary level.
The Minority Residential Schools will be established in Kishanganj and Darbhanga after receiving approval from Chief Minister Nitish Kumar under the state’s minority welfare program.

Officials said the initiative is aimed at supporting students from economically weaker sections and improving participation at the secondary and senior secondary stages.
Admissions for the two schools will open this month, with applications accepted until Dec 30.
The institutions will offer enrollment for the 2025–26 academic year in the Arts and Science streams, limited to Classes 9 and 11.
According to the Minority Welfare Department, students belonging to Muslim, Sikh, Christian, Buddhist, Jain, and Parsi communities will be eligible.
Along with free schooling, the government will provide hostel accommodation and basic facilities to all admitted students.
Officials said the residential setup is intended to ensure a secure learning environment while supporting students’ overall development, including health, discipline, and academic continuity.
Applications will be accepted through both online and offline modes to ensure access for students in remote areas with limited internet connectivity.
The seat allocation aims to ensure inclusion, with 75% reserved for students from rural areas and girls comprising 50% of the total intake at each school.
Existing reservation norms followed by Bihar government educational institutions will also apply.
Age criteria have been specified. Applicants for Class 9 must be no older than 16, while those applying for Class 11 should be 18 or below. Preference will be given to students currently studying in recognized schools.
Officials said the Kishanganj and Darbhanga schools are part of a broader push to strengthen minority education infrastructure across the state.

By combining free education with residential facilities, the government hopes to reduce dropout rates and encourage students to continue their studies at higher levels.
The two schools are expected to cater to students from surrounding districts as well. The department said further expansion could be considered depending on demand and response.
Eligible students and parents have been advised to apply well before the Dec 30 deadline, with detailed guidelines available through the Minority Welfare Department.
