Bihar launches campaign to enroll children of laborers in schools under RTE

The Bihar Education Department has launched a special campaign to ensure children of laborers, aged 6 to 14, are enrolled in local schools and receive education under the Right to Education Act (RTE).

The department has directed all district authorities to locate and enroll children of laborers who work at construction sites, sand ghats, and brick kilns in local schools.

The initiative seeks to guarantee that no child is denied an education because of financial hardship brought on by working parents.

In his letter to all District Magistrates (DMs), Additional Chief Secretary of the Education Department S Siddharth emphasized that education is a fundamental right and instructed officials to link out-of-school children to formal education.

Many children drop out of school because they are forced to stay with their parents at work, according to Siddhartha, who recently visited various brick kilns and construction sites.

Section 3(1) of the Right to Education Act will govern children's enrollment. According to this regulation, all children between the ages of 6 and 14 shall receive free, compulsory education in a local school until they have finished elementary school.

Bihar hopes to fill the educational gap and guarantee that children of marginalized laborers have access to high-quality educational opportunities through this effort.

The Bihar Education Department has established the procedures for identifying and enrolling children from brick kilns and construction sites in order to guarantee 100% school enrollment.

Authorities have been requested to locate children between the ages of 6 and 14 who engage in labor-intensive jobs and promptly enroll them in local schools.

Additionally, the directive stated that enrollment may occur at any point during the school year.

Additionally, the Education Department directed employers of construction sites and owners of brick kilns to make sure their employees' children are enrolled in school and regularly attend classes.

To track attendance and keep these children from dropping out, the department has put in place specialized monitoring systems.

By ensuring that poverty and labor migration do not become obstacles to a child's education, this project upholds the Right to Education (RTE) Act.
