BHU expands digital learning reach with 63 new online courses

Banaras Hindu University (BHU) has introduced 63 online programs under the Ministry of Education’s SWAYAM initiative for the 2025 academic session.

Registration for these courses is currently open, with classes scheduled to begin on July 21 and August 18.

Interested learners can enroll through the official website at swayam.gov.in/INI.

The courses, which last four, eight, or 12 weeks, span a wide range of disciplines, including commerce, management, arts, humanities, social sciences, life sciences, psychology, law, engineering, and Ayurveda.

They offer a mix of traditional and contemporary subjects. Exams for the enrolled courses will begin in October 2025.

SWAYAM (Study Webs of Active Learning for Young Aspiring Minds) is a national initiative aimed at offering quality online education free of cost.

“BHU has been proactively involved with the initiative, offering diverse courses. The university has already developed 37 programs in the last two sessions. Acknowledging Banaras Hindu University’s commitment and contribution to advancing digital education in the country, the Ministry of Education has also appointed the university as National Coordinator (NC) for Institutions of National Importance (INIs) on the SWAYAM platform,” the university said in an official statement.

Dr Ashutosh Mohan from the Institute of Management Studies has been named BHU’s SWAYAM Coordinator and designated as the National Coordinator for Institutions of National Importance.

With this role, BHU is now responsible for overseeing the creation and quality of online courses developed by more than 160 Institutes of National Importance, including Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) and Central Universities.

The university also supports academic administration and strategic development for MOOCs on the SWAYAM platform.

To keep the public updated on its efforts and achievements, BHU has launched a new information webpage at news.bhu.ac.in.
