The University of Delhi instructs institutions to inspect buildings, utilities, and safety equipment to ensure secure, functional environments for students returning after the summer vacation.
The University of Delhi has directed all college principals, department heads, hostel provosts, and university librarians to conduct a thorough safety and infrastructure audit of their campuses following the conclusion of exams and the start of summer vacation.
In an official circular issued by Proctor Professor Rajni Abbi, institutions have been asked to inspect classrooms, hostels, and toilets to verify the structural integrity of walls and roofs.
The directive also emphasizes checking the functionality of fans and lights and ensuring a steady supply of drinking and toilet water.
"It is requested that after the examinations end and the vacation period begins, a thorough survey be conducted in all rooms and toilets of your institution. Please ensure that all roofs and walls are structurally sound, electrical fittings such as fans and lights are functioning, there is enough provision for drinking water, and there is an adequate supply of toilet water," the circular states.
The circular also calls for operational lifts, repairs to ramps used by students with disabilities, functional fire extinguishers, and whitewashing of buildings where required.
These steps have been deemed essential in view of recent incidents reported from some colleges.
This initiative is part of the Board of Residence, Health, and Discipline Ordinance XV (Chapter VI) and is intended to ensure a "safe, secure, and healthy environment" for students when they return to campus after the break.
