The program provides international research experience, joint mentorship from both universities, and funded opportunities for students pursuing studies in science, engineering, humanities, and social sciences.

The University of Queensland (UQ), Australia, and the Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IIT Delhi) have opened Expressions of Interest (EoI) for their Joint Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) program, set to begin in July 2026.
The initiative allows PhD candidates to conduct research under the joint supervision of faculty from both institutions, combining the academic strengths of India and Australia.

According to the announcement, students will spend one year at UQ’s Brisbane campus and three years at IIT Delhi, gaining valuable international research exposure and cross-cultural academic experience.
The program offers fellowships, research travel grants, and relocation assistance to support enrolled candidates.
Students will also have access to world-class research facilities, laboratories, and academic resources at both universities.
Upon successful completion, graduates will be awarded a joint PhD degree from UQ and IIT Delhi.
Applications are open to candidates from a wide range of disciplines, including science, technology, engineering, mathematics, humanities, and social sciences.
Interested applicants can submit their EoIs online until 7 pm (IST) on Jan 7, 2026, via the official website uqiitd.org/study.
To help prospective students understand the program’s structure, eligibility, and application process, two online information sessions will be held.
The first session is scheduled for Nov 11, with registration available at shorturl.at/QQoIe, and the second session will take place on Dec 10, with registration at shorturl.at/vjVp1.
The joint academy accepts applications twice a year. Round one typically opens in February for the July intake of the same year, while round two begins in September for the January intake of the following year.

Last year, all students admitted to the UQ–IITD PhD program received scholarships covering the full duration of their candidature, up to four years of full-time study.
The UQ–IITD Research Academy has also collaborated with its industry partner, The Weir Group, on a PhD project focused on advancing research in slurry transportation.
Visit the official website, uqiitd.org, for further details on eligibility, scholarships, and the application process.
