The scheme aims at supporting girls pursuing higher education by providing financial assistance and resources, encouraging academic growth and reducing dropout rates among female students in Andhra Pradesh.
In a move to strengthen Andhra Pradesh’s education system, Human Resource Development, IT, and Electronics Minister Nara Lokesh on May 5 announced the launch of the ‘Kalalaku Rekkalu’ scheme, aimed at promoting higher education for girls starting this academic year.
The announcement came as part of a broader set of initiatives to improve access, transparency, and academic outcomes across all educational levels.
Lokesh also proposed recognising top Class X performers as “Shining Stars” to foster a culture that values academic excellence.
In a high-level review meeting at his residence in Undavalli, Lokesh met with top officials from the School, Intermediate, and Higher Education Departments to assess preparedness and lay down directives for the months ahead.
He stressed the importance of smooth execution for the upcoming District Selection Committee (DSC) exam, scheduled to start on June 6, urging the setup of reliable technical systems and effective grievance support.
“Ensure robust infrastructure at TCS iON centers and efficient functioning of DSC call centers,” he said.
Clarifying eligibility concerns, Lokesh affirmed that Teacher Eligibility Test (TET) qualifications would remain valid for DSC participation.
Candidates can submit their credentials online, with physical documents required only during verification stages.
“We must make the process seamless and supportive,” he noted.
On teacher transfers, Lokesh emphasized adherence to the Teachers Transfer Act and called for all transfers to be completed before the start of the academic session to avoid disruptions.
Preparations for the new school year were also addressed, with instructions for early distribution of textbooks and student kits.
“No child attending school should be left out,” Lokesh insisted.
Turning to higher education, the minister highlighted plans to revive the Ambedkar Videshi Vidya Scheme, strengthen government degree colleges, and position at least two state universities among the QS Top 100 global rankings.
A quarterly schedule for fee reimbursement disbursements was announced to prevent financial barriers to education.
In addition, 205 government libraries will be upgraded to serve as resource hubs for unemployed youth, supporting skill-building and exam preparation.
He also approved the transfer process for junior college lecturers, ensuring fair and timely placements.
The meeting was attended by senior officials, including Education Principal Secretary Kona Sasidhar and Directors Narayana Bharat Gupta, Kritika Shukla, and Vijay Rama Raju.
