Third-year BSc Nursing student allegedly found hanging in Rajinder Nagar hostel; crime team examines scene as police investigate circumstances of death.

A 19-year-old third-year BSc Nursing student was found dead in her hostel room in Delhi's Rajinder Nagar area. The police are investigating the case and examining the circumstances surrounding her death.
The student, a resident of Najafgarh in Delhi, was allegedly found hanging on Friday in her hostel room by fellow students. She was immediately taken to Sir Ganga Ram Hospital for medical assistance, where the authorities were subsequently informed about the incident.

Following the information, personnel from Rajinder Nagar Police Station rushed to the hostel and began the required legal proceedings. A Crime Team was also called to inspect the scene and collect evidence as part of the investigation.
Police said they are examining the events leading up to the student's death and are trying to determine the exact circumstances in which the incident occurred. Further enquiries are underway.
The administration of Sir Ganga Ram Hospital expressed shock and concern over the death and said it was fully cooperating with the investigating authorities.
In a statement, the hospital said all relevant aspects of the case, including the circumstances preceding the incident, were being examined as part of the ongoing investigation.
"The hospital authorities are extending full cooperation to the investigating agencies, and all relevant facts, including the circumstances leading up to the incident, are being examined," the hospital said.
The administration further stated that it would provide any information required by the authorities and share additional details once the investigation establishes the facts of the case.
The precise reason behind the student's death has not yet been determined, and further details are awaited.
The incident comes amid continuing concern over student deaths by suicide in India.
According to National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) data, 14,488 student suicides were reported across the country in 2024, the highest number recorded in recent years. The figure represented a sharp rise from 8,068 such deaths reported in 2014.
The data indicates that, on average, around 40 students died by suicide each day in 2024, highlighting growing concerns about mental health and other pressures faced by young people. Police are continuing their investigation into the Delhi case.
