Washington tells Americans to leave 13 nations immediately as Iran–Israel conflict widens and missiles rain across Gulf.

In a stark warning underscoring the rapid deterioration of security across West Asia, the United States has urged its citizens to immediately depart from 13 Middle Eastern countries, citing “serious safety risks” amid an intensifying regional conflict involving Iran, Israel and the United States.
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio early March 3 called on Americans to leave the region using available commercial transport, as missile exchanges and aerial assaults escalate across multiple fronts.

The advisory applies to Americans currently in Bahrain, Egypt, Iran, Iraq, Israel (including the West Bank and Gaza), Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Syria, the United Arab Emirates and Yemen.
Taking to X, US State Department Assistant Secretary Mora Namdar said the department “urges Americans to DEPART NOW” and asked those requiring assistance to contact 24/7 emergency helplines. Citizens were also directed to enrol in the government’s Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP) to receive real-time security updates from the nearest US embassy or consulate.
The emergency advisory comes amid heightened regional volatility. The UAE’s Ministry of Defense confirmed it had intercepted a “third wave” of Iranian missile strikes targeting both civilian and military infrastructure, signaling a dangerous expansion of hostilities beyond immediate combat zones.
The escalation follows direct military confrontation between Iran, Israel and the United States, with Tehran launching widespread aerial retaliation in response to sustained strikes on its territory.
With Israel and the US intensifying attacks, US President Donald Trump indicated that the campaign against Iran could stretch on for weeks, raising fears of a drawn-out regional war.
Tehran and its allied forces have responded by striking Israeli and Gulf targets, including sites critical to global energy production — amplifying concerns of disruptions to oil supply routes and economic shockwaves far beyond the Middle East.
The scale and frequency of the attacks, coupled with the absence of a clear diplomatic exit strategy, have deepened fears of a prolonged and unpredictable conflict with far-reaching geopolitical consequences.
The US State Department reiterated that American citizens should rely only on commercial means of departure at this stage, signaling the gravity of the security environment as missiles continue to crisscross the region’s skies and tensions edge closer to a wider war.
