Massive Israeli strikes hit Tehran, huge fires erupt at fuel depots

Massive explosions and large fires were reported across Tehran after Israeli airstrikes targeted several fuel storage facilities and military-linked sites overnight, as the ongoing conflict between Israel and Iran intensified.

Videos circulating on social media and news platforms showed towering flames lighting up the night sky in parts of the Iranian capital, with thick plumes of black smoke rising above the city’s skyline. The strikes reportedly hit multiple oil depots and a refinery believed to be connected to Iran’s military infrastructure.

According to reports, at least five fuel storage sites were targeted during the wave of attacks, triggering massive fires that continued burning for hours. Initial reports said four people, including two tanker drivers, were killed in the strikes.

The Israeli military said the targets included fuel storage complexes used by Iran’s armed forces as part of a broader campaign aimed at weakening the country’s military capabilities.

The overnight assault is part of the rapidly escalating regional conflict that began after US- and Israeli-linked strikes on Iran in late February, which triggered retaliatory missile and drone attacks across the Middle East. The war has since spread across several fronts involving regional actors and military infrastructure.

Authorities in Tehran warned residents about heavy smoke and possible environmental hazards after fuel storage facilities caught fire. Reports said the smoke cloud covering parts of the capital could cause hazardous air pollution, prompting officials to advise residents to stay indoors.

The strikes have also affected fuel supplies in the city, with authorities introducing restrictions on subsidised petrol purchases as a precautionary measure amid concerns over supply disruptions.

The latest attacks underline the widening scale of the conflict, which has already caused heavy casualties and major damage to infrastructure across the region, raising fears of a prolonged war in the Middle East.
