Iran nuclear sites hit, US troops injured at Saudi air base as war enters second month

The conflict involving Iran, the United States and Israel has entered its second month with fresh escalation, as Iranian missile and drone strikes injured US troops at a key air base in Saudi Arabia following reported attacks on Iran’s nuclear facilities.

According to reports, the strike targeted the Prince Sultan Air Base, a major installation hosting US forces. At least 10 to 15 American personnel were injured in the attack, with some reported to be in serious condition.

The assault involved a combination of ballistic missiles and drones, with one or more projectiles striking buildings inside the base. Several US Air Force refuelling aircraft were also damaged in the attack, underscoring the scale and precision of the strike.

The incident comes amid intensified military activity, including recent strikes on Iranian nuclear-linked sites by US and Israeli forces. These attacks have heightened tensions significantly, prompting retaliatory actions from Tehran across the region.

The Prince Sultan Air Base has been a critical hub for US military operations in West Asia, and has been repeatedly targeted since the conflict began on February 28. Earlier missile and drone attacks had either been intercepted or caused limited damage, but the latest strike marks one of the most serious hits on US personnel so far.

Officials said the injured troops were inside a facility when it was struck, leading to concussions and blast-related injuries. While most injuries were not life-threatening, at least two personnel were reported to be seriously wounded.

The latest developments highlight Iran’s continued ability to strike US-linked targets across the region despite sustained airstrikes on its military infrastructure. Analysts note that Tehran’s use of both missiles and drones reflects a strategy aimed at overwhelming air defence systems and maintaining pressure on US forces.

The broader conflict has already resulted in hundreds of US troop injuries and multiple fatalities, while also causing widespread disruption to regional stability, global oil supply routes, and international shipping.

With hostilities intensifying and more actors becoming directly involved, fears are growing of a prolonged and wider regional war. The situation remains volatile, with both sides continuing military operations even as diplomatic efforts struggle to gain traction.
