A senior Iranian military spokesperson has dismissed US claims of ongoing talks, calling Washington’s proposed peace plan an attempt to present “defeat as agreement” amid escalating Middle East tensions.

Iran has sharply criticised US President Donald Trump over claims of ongoing negotiations, saying Washington is effectively “negotiating with itself” while trying to project progress in ending the conflict.
The remarks came from a senior Iranian military spokesperson, who ridiculed the US push for a ceasefire and rejected assertions that talks were underway. The official accused Washington of attempting to portray strategic setbacks as diplomatic achievements.

The criticism is linked to a proposed 15-point peace plan put forward by the US to de-escalate tensions in the region. However, Tehran has denied any formal engagement, casting doubt on the credibility and viability of the initiative.
In a strongly worded response, the Iranian side suggested that internal divisions within the US were leading to contradictory claims about negotiations. The spokesperson also warned against what it described as “media narratives” aimed at reframing the situation in Washington’s favour.
The exchange highlights the deep mistrust between the two sides, with both continuing to take hardline positions even as global concerns grow over the escalating conflict. While the US has indicated openness to a diplomatic resolution, Iran has maintained that no meaningful talks are currently taking place.
The broader context remains volatile, with tensions in the region disrupting key oil routes and impacting global markets. The lack of alignment on negotiations further complicates prospects for a near-term resolution.
