Iran hits UAE’s Fujairah oil terminal hours after US strikes Kharg Island

A major fire broke out near an oil storage and export facility in Fujairah, United Arab Emirates, hours after the United States carried out strikes on Iran’s key oil hub at Kharg Island, as tensions across the Middle East continued to escalate.

Videos circulating online showed thick black smoke rising over Fujairah, a coastal city that hosts one of the region’s most important oil storage and export terminals. The port plays a significant role in global energy trade and serves as a critical hub for crude shipments from the Gulf.

The incident came shortly after US President Donald Trump announced that American forces had bombed military targets on Kharg Island, which handles almost all of Iran’s crude oil exports. The island is considered the backbone of Iran’s oil infrastructure and a crucial node in the country’s energy network.

Authorities in the UAE said the fire in Fujairah was caused by debris from an intercepted drone attack. Air defence systems reportedly engaged incoming drones and missiles amid heightened security alerts across the Gulf.

The developments come as the war between Iran, the US and Israel continues to widen, raising concerns about the safety of critical energy infrastructure in the region. Fujairah is among the world’s major oil-handling ports and processes large volumes of crude exports and storage operations.

Energy markets are closely watching the situation as the conflict threatens shipping routes through the Strait of Hormuz, a strategic maritime passage that handles a substantial share of the world’s oil trade. The ongoing crisis in the Gulf has already disrupted shipping and heightened fears of supply shocks in global energy markets.

Civil defence teams were deployed to control the fire at the Fujairah facility, while authorities said investigations were underway to determine the extent of damage. No casualties were immediately reported.
