Massive explosions rock key military hub; Tehran downs US drone as missile exchanges intensify conflict.

Massive explosions ripped through Iran’s central city of Isfahan after a reported US-Israeli airstrike targeted a major weapons depot, signaling a sharp escalation in the ongoing conflict.
According to US officials cited in media reports, the strike involved multiple 2,000-pound (≈900 kg) bunker-buster bombs—powerful munitions designed to penetrate deep underground targets before detonating. The attack triggered successive blasts and towering fireballs that lit up the night sky.

US President Donald Trump subsequently shared a video showing the explosion, capturing multiple shockwaves and intense orange flames, though he did not provide any context for the footage.
Isfahan, a city of about 2.3 million people, is a critical hub for Iran’s military and nuclear-linked infrastructure, making it a high-value strategic target in the widening conflict.
Iran shoots down US drone
Amid the escalation, Iran claimed it shot down a US-made MQ-9 Reaper drone over Isfahan. The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) said the unmanned aerial vehicle was intercepted after failing to breach its air defense systems.
Missile exchanges widen conflict
The confrontation quickly expanded beyond Iran’s borders. Explosions were reported in Jerusalem after Iran launched multiple missiles towards Israel in the early hours of Tuesday.
The Israeli military said its air defense systems intercepted incoming projectiles. The missile barrage came after Israeli forces carried out large-scale strikes in Tehran, reportedly hitting at least 170 targets with more than 400 munitions.
Escalation raises regional fears
The use of bunker-buster bombs—typically reserved for hardened or underground facilities—highlights a shift towards deeper, high-value military targets within Iran.
With airstrikes, missile attacks and drone interceptions unfolding simultaneously, the conflict is entering a more dangerous phase, raising fears of a broader regional war and further destabilization across the Middle East.
