Defense Minister Rajnath Singh cautioned that any Pakistani move in the disputed Sir Creek area would be met decisively, invoking India’s military readiness and prior operations.

Defense Minister Rajnath Singh delivered a robust warning to Pakistan on Thursday, stating that any aggression toward the Sir Creek region would be met with a “resounding response” capable of altering “history and geography.”
Singh made the remarks during Vijayadashami celebrations at a military base near Bhuj, Gujarat, where he performed shastra puja with India’s armed forces present.

Singh recalled Operation Sindoor, an Indian military response launched earlier this year following a terror attack in Pahalgam. He claimed India’s objectives were achieved without escalating into full war, but signalled constraints would not bind India if Pakistan advances.
Sir Creek, a 96-kilometre tidal estuary between India’s Gujarat and Pakistan’s Sindh, remains a longstanding disputed border zone, with ambiguity over maritime boundaries compounding territorial claims.
India asserts the thalweg principle and mid-channel lines in its claims, while Pakistan contests their applicability in this tidal region.
Singh accused Pakistan of expanding military infrastructure adjacent to Sir Creek, interpreting these moves as hostile intent. “Despite 78 years of independence, the border dispute in Sir Creek remains unresolved,” he said, adding that previous dialogue offers had been undermined by Pakistan’s “flawed” intentions.
He referenced India’s 1965 war statement by saying that India once demonstrated capacity to advance to Lahore, and that “one route to Karachi passes through the Creek,” underscoring strategic implications.
Singh also reaffirmed the synergies of India’s three military services—Army, Air Force and Navy—as foundational to India’s strategic posture.
He reminded that Indian forces remain on high alert, and emphasised vigilance by the Border Security Force (BSF) in the region.
