The Indian Embassy in Tehran has issued a fresh advisory urging citizens to exit Iran through approved routes, even as a temporary ceasefire between the US and Iran comes into effect.

India has advised its nationals in Iran to leave the country “at the earliest,” issuing a fresh advisory despite a recently announced ceasefire between the United States and Iran.
The advisory, issued by the Indian Embassy in Tehran on April 8, urged all Indian citizens still in Iran to “expeditiously exit” the country in coordination with the mission. Citizens have been asked to use only those routes that are recommended by the embassy for safe departure.

The embassy also cautioned Indian nationals against attempting to reach any international land border without prior consultation and coordination with officials.
The latest advisory follows an earlier communication issued on April 7, in which Indian citizens were asked to remain indoors for at least 48 hours due to the prevailing security situation. The earlier guidance also advised avoiding sensitive locations, including military installations and high-rise buildings, and to coordinate any movement with the embassy.
The renewed warning comes even as a temporary ceasefire has been agreed upon between the US and Iran. The ceasefire, reported to be for a limited duration, was reached shortly before a deadline set by US President Donald Trump for potential military action.
As part of the ceasefire arrangement, Iran has agreed to reopen the Strait of Hormuz for a limited period, a critical global shipping route. However, despite the pause in hostilities, the security situation in the region remains uncertain.
Iranian leadership has also suggested that the ceasefire does not necessarily mark the end of the conflict, signalling that the situation could remain volatile.
India has previously issued similar advisories during periods of heightened tension in the region, urging nationals to prioritise safety and avoid unnecessary travel or movement.
