Violence broke out in parts of Belfast following a knife attack, with homes, vehicles and public property targeted as authorities urged calm and launched investigations into the disorder.

Violent unrest erupted across Belfast and other parts of Northern Ireland after a knife attack on a local resident sparked anti-immigration protests, leading to arson attacks on homes, vehicles and public property. Authorities have condemned the violence, which largely targeted ethnic minority and migrant communities.
The unrest followed a knife attack in Belfast in which a man suffered serious injuries. Police charged a 30-year-old Sudanese man with attempted murder and other offences. Investigators said there was no indication that the attack was terror-related.

As videos of the stabbing circulated online, protests quickly escalated into disorder. Masked groups gathered in several areas of Belfast, setting vehicles on fire, attacking properties and damaging homes believed to be occupied by migrants. Reports indicated that some families fled their residences after houses were targeted during the violence.
A public bus was set ablaze in east Belfast, while multiple vehicles were torched in different parts of the city. Police officers also came under attack as authorities attempted to contain the disturbances.
British Prime Minister Keir Starmer condemned the violence, describing the scenes as unacceptable and warning that those responsible would face the full force of the law. Political leaders across Northern Ireland similarly denounced the attacks and called for calm.
The family of the stabbing victim also appealed for restraint, stating that the violence was not welcome and urging people not to use the incident to fuel hostility toward migrant communities. They acknowledged the contribution migrants make to society and called for peaceful responses.
Northern Ireland's Justice Minister Naomi Long said online actors and inflammatory rhetoric had contributed to escalating tensions. Officials warned against attempts to exploit the incident to spread racial hatred or incite further disorder.
Police have increased their presence across affected areas and are investigating incidents of arson, vandalism and attacks on property. Authorities said efforts are underway to restore order and reassure communities affected by the violence.
