PM Modi reaffirms India’s commitment to research, innovation and use of science and technology for national progress and global good on National Science Day.

On National Science Day — observed every year on February 28 to honour the discovery of the Raman Effect by C. V. Raman — Narendra Modi reaffirmed India’s resolve to harness science and technology as drivers of national development and global welfare.
The Prime Minister made the remarks in a message marking the day’s significance, celebrating the spirit of research and innovation that propels the country forward.

In his message, the Prime Minister highlighted that National Science Day commemorates the “groundbreaking discovery of the Raman Effect” — a scientific milestone that placed Indian research firmly on the global map after Sir CV Raman won the Nobel Prize for this work. Modi said the discovery continues to inspire scientific curiosity among India’s youth and researchers.
Taking to X (formerly Twitter), the Prime Minister wrote that the day is an opportunity to celebrate “the spirit of research, innovation and scientific curiosity that drives our nation forward” and emphasised the government’s commitment to empowering young scientists, strengthening research ecosystems, and using science and technology for the benefit of the nation and the world.
National Science Day is observed nationwide to promote scientific temper and commemorate India’s rich scientific heritage. It recognises the role of scientific inquiry in addressing societal challenges and shaping the future, while paying tribute to Indian contributions to science such as the Raman Effect.
