In a recent development, Google has issued warnings to 10 Indian app developers regarding their non-compliance with Play Store policies. The tech giant cautioned that failure to rectify these violations could lead to the removal of their apps from the platform. While the company has refrained from disclosing the names of the offending developers, it emphasized the need for adherence to its policies across the ecosystem.
The warnings come on the heels of a legal battle between several startups and Google over billing policies. Although the Supreme Court agreed to hear pleas from these startups on February 9, it declined to issue an interim order safeguarding them from potential expulsion from the Play Store, as requested.
In a statement, Google underscored its commitment to enforcing policies consistently, citing a timeline of over three years for developers to prepare for compliance. Despite offering assistance to developers in navigating its policies, the company reiterated its stance on ensuring adherence to Play Store guidelines.
To facilitate compliance, Google outlined three billing options for developers, including operating on a consumption-only basis, integrating Google Play's billing system, or offering an alternative billing solution. The company emphasized that existing users would retain access to the apps without disruption and pledged ongoing support to aid developers in achieving compliance.
While Google reaffirmed its dedication to India's digital ecosystem and technological advancement, it also noted that developers retain the option to distribute their apps through alternative Android app stores or their own websites. The tech giant's commitment to investing in India's digital future remains unwavering, underscoring its ongoing efforts to uphold industry standards and foster innovation within the ecosystem.
