iPhone maker Apple revealed on October 4, its plans to open four additional retail stores across India, with new locations set for Pune, Bengaluru, Delhi-NCR, and Mumbai.
The announcement comes as the tech giant continues to strengthen its presence in the Indian market, building on the success of its initial stores opened in Delhi and Mumbai earlier this year.
In a significant development, Apple also confirmed that it will start selling its first-ever "Made in India" iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max models, with the devices expected to be available to Indian customers later this month.
“We are excited to continue growing our teams and expanding our retail stores in India. The creativity and enthusiasm of our customers here inspire us, and we want to offer them even more ways to explore our products and services,” said Deirdre O’Brien, Apple’s Senior Vice President of Retail.
She emphasized that the new stores will provide opportunities for customers to engage with Apple's products while benefiting from the expertise of their knowledgeable staff.
Apple first ventured into retail in India with the opening of two stores in Delhi and Mumbai in April 2023.
The company's latest expansion is part of a broader effort to boost its local presence. Sources familiar with the plan suggest that the new stores will likely open their doors by next year.
Beyond retail growth, Apple has achieved a significant milestone in its production strategy. The company has begun manufacturing its entire iPhone 16 lineup, including the high-end iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max, within India.
This marks a step forward in Apple’s efforts to localize production and reduce reliance on overseas manufacturing hubs.
“iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max, manufactured in India, will soon be available for our local customers and exported to select international markets,” Apple stated.
The company's local production efforts began in 2017, and the iPhone 16 series represents its most advanced devices to be made in India so far.
According to industry sources, shipments of the "Made in India" iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max are expected to start this month, offering Indian consumers quicker access to the latest models.
