IPL 2024 Updates: Injuries and Replacements Ahead of the Season

As the excitement for the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 builds, teams are actively engaging in preparatory activities like team-building and training sessions. However, some key players are set to miss the season due to injuries and other reasons. Here’s a rundown of the affected players and their replacements:

Gujarat Titans

  • Mohammed Shami, the leading wicket-taker from the previous IPL, is sidelined for the 2024 season following an ankle injury incurred during the ODI World Cup in 2023. His surgery took place in London, and the Titans have yet to name his substitute.
  • Matthew Wade, the Australian wicketkeeper, will be absent for the Titans’ opening match on March 25 and possibly the subsequent game on March 27. Wade has chosen to play in the Sheffield Shield final representing Tasmania.

Lucknow Super Giants

  • Mark Wood has been pulled from the IPL roster by the England Cricket Board (ECB) to moderate his workload in anticipation of the T20 World Cup and the upcoming English cricket season. West Indies’ fast bowler Shamar Joseph steps in as his replacement.

Rajasthan Royals

  • Prasidh Krishna, the Indian pace spearhead, will miss his second IPL season in a row due to a quadriceps tendon surgery following an injury during the Ranji Trophy. The Royals have yet to announce his replacement.

Kolkata Knight Riders

  • Jason Roy, the dynamic England opener, has opted out of IPL 2024 citing personal reasons. Taking his place is Phil Salt, another English cricketer, who currently holds the second spot in the T20I batting rankings.
  • Gus Atkinson, the English pacer, has decided to skip his first IPL season to manage his workload. Dushmantha Chameera from Sri Lanka has been named as his replacement.

Chennai Super Kings

  • Devon Conway, the proficient New Zealand batsman, is recovering from thumb surgery and is projected to be out of action for eight weeks. The Super Kings are in the process of identifying a suitable replacement.
