India pacer docked 15% of match fee and handed one demerit point for breaching Level 1 of the ICC Code of Conduct; incident briefly flares tempers before players reconcile.

India fast bowler Arshdeep Singh has been fined 15% of his match fee by the International Cricket Council (ICC) following an on-field incident involving New Zealand batter Daryl Mitchell during the ICC Men's T20 World Cup final on March 8.
The sanction came after Arshdeep breached Level 1 of the ICC Code of Conduct when a throw from his follow-through struck Mitchell during New Zealand’s innings.

The moment unfolded in the 11th over of New Zealand’s chase when Arshdeep fielded the ball in his follow-through and threw it towards the batter’s end. The ball struck Mitchell, prompting an angry reaction from the New Zealand player.
India captain Suryakumar Yadav stepped in quickly to calm the situation as tensions briefly flared in the high-stakes final.
However, the episode was quickly defused, with Arshdeep and Mitchell shaking hands shortly after the over in a gesture of reconciliation.
In a statement, the ICC confirmed that Arshdeep violated Article 2.9 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which relates to:
“Throwing a ball (or any other item of cricket equipment) at or near a player in an inappropriate and/or dangerous manner during an International Match.”
Along with the 15% match fee fine, one demerit point has been added to Arshdeep’s disciplinary record — his first offence within a 24-month period.
The sanction was proposed by Andy Pycroft of the Emirates ICC Elite Panel of Match Referees. Arshdeep accepted the penalty, eliminating the need for a formal hearing.
The charge was levelled by on-field umpires Richard Illingworth and Alex Wharf, along with third umpire Allahuddien Paleker and fourth umpire Adrian Holdstock.
Under ICC regulations, Level 1 breaches carry penalties ranging from an official reprimand to a fine of up to 50% of a player’s match fee, along with one or two demerit points.
After the match, Arshdeep offered a personal apology to Mitchell, a moment captured in a video shared by New Zealand’s BlackCaps social media.
“I know I can apologize as much as I can but… really sorry,” Arshdeep told Mitchell before the two shook hands and shared a brief laugh.
Speaking later to broadcasters, Arshdeep explained the incident.
“My throw reverse-swung and hit him, so I just wanted to say sorry. It was not intentional,” the India pacer said after the game.
