A political controversy has erupted in West Bengal after a sting video purportedly featuring Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader Humayun Kabir surfaced online, drawing sharp reactions from opposition parties, particularly the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
In the video, Kabir is allegedly heard making remarks that have been described as provocative, prompting the BJP to accuse the TMC of pursuing divisive politics in the run-up to the Assembly elections. The BJP has linked the comments to a broader electoral strategy, claiming they reflect an attempt to polarise voters.

The authenticity of the sting video has not been independently verified by authorities. However, the clip has gained traction on social media, intensifying political exchanges between the ruling party and the opposition.
Reacting to the development, BJP leaders criticised the TMC and accused it of encouraging statements that could disturb communal harmony. The party has sought clarification from the TMC leadership and demanded accountability over the remarks attributed to Kabir.
The TMC has not issued a detailed official statement on the specific allegations in the video at the time of reporting. Party leaders, however, have in similar instances previously maintained that such clips are often selectively edited or circulated with political intent during election periods.
The controversy comes amid heightened political activity in West Bengal, where election campaigning has intensified. Political parties have been actively targeting each other over issues ranging from governance to law and order, with allegations and counter-allegations forming a central part of campaign narratives.
The BJP has also attempted to link the incident to the presence and potential role of the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) in the state’s political landscape, suggesting that such developments could influence voting patterns in certain constituencies.
No formal complaint or legal action related to the video had been publicly confirmed at the time of writing. It also remains unclear whether the Election Commission has taken cognisance of the matter.
