BJP MLA in Gadchiroli filed an FIR against the RJD leader, accusing him of posting defamatory, “socially divisive” content against Prime Minister Modi on social media.

Maharashtra Police have registered an FIR against Rashtriya Janata Dal leader and former Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Tejashwi Yadav in Gadchiroli.
The complaint follows a social media post in which he allegedly referred to Prime Minister Narendra Modi as a “liar” and accused him of making false promises.

The post also included a song criticizing Modi for “lying morning and evening.” The FIR was filed after BJP MLA Milind Ramji Narote, representing Gadchiroli, submitted screenshots of the content as evidence.
Narote’s complaint alleges that Yadav's posts were “defamatory, derogatory and socially divisive,” intended to disturb peace and harmony among citizens. It further claimed such statements have been made repeatedly on social media, amounting to criminal conduct.
The FIR was registered under several sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, including Section 196(1)(a): using digital communication to promote hatred or ill-will, Section 196(1)(b): acts prejudicial to the maintenance of harmony, Section 356(2) & (3): derogatory or repeated defamatory statements against the government, and Sections 352 and 353(2): causing public mischief and attempts to spread disharmony through digital media.
At present, neither Tejashwi Yadav nor his political party, the RJD, has issued a public statement in response to the FIR. Authorities have noted the case was filed promptly after being alerted to the posts by party workers and verified by the MLA.
