Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi on May 6 launched a sharp attack on the Bharatiya Janata Party following its electoral gains in West Bengal and Assam, alleging large-scale electoral malpractice.
Gandhi claimed that “every sixth” BJP Member of Parliament in the Lok Sabha had secured their seat through “vote theft,” suggesting that a significant number of the party’s 240 MPs were elected through irregular means.

His remarks came in the backdrop of the recent assembly election results in the two eastern states, where the BJP recorded a strong performance. Gandhi framed the allegation as part of a broader pattern, questioning the integrity of electoral processes.
The Congress leader has, in recent days, repeatedly alleged that elections in West Bengal and Assam were “stolen,” echoing concerns raised by opposition parties over the fairness of the polls.
He also used the term “infiltrators” in a political jab, suggesting that those who allegedly benefited from such practices should be viewed critically within the democratic system.
The BJP has consistently rejected such allegations, maintaining that its electoral victories reflect public support and were achieved through a transparent democratic process.
The remarks come amid a series of allegations by the Congress over voter roll revisions and alleged irregularities during recent elections in states such as West Bengal and Assam.
Rahul Gandhi has repeatedly questioned the role of the Election Commission and claimed a pattern of manipulation, while the BJP has dismissed these charges as baseless and politically motivated.
