Prime Minister Narendra Modi on April 9 urged voters in Assam, Kerala and Puducherry to cast their votes in large numbers as polling got underway in the three regions.
In a message posted on social media, Modi encouraged eligible voters, particularly first-time voters and young citizens, to actively participate in the electoral process. He said higher voter turnout would strengthen democratic values and ensure greater public participation in governance.

Polling in Assam, Kerala and Puducherry is part of the ongoing Assembly elections, with multiple constituencies voting as per the schedule announced by the Election Commission.
Authorities have made arrangements to ensure smooth conduct of polling, including deployment of security personnel and polling staff across booths.
Modi’s appeal comes at a time when political parties have intensified their campaigns in the run-up to voting. Leaders across parties have been reaching out to voters through rallies, roadshows and public meetings to mobilise support.
The Prime Minister specifically highlighted the role of young and first-time voters, urging them to exercise their franchise and contribute to the democratic process. He also extended his best wishes to voters in the three regions.
Election officials have emphasised the importance of voter participation and have put in place measures to facilitate smooth polling. These include arrangements for senior citizens, persons with disabilities, and other voters requiring assistance at polling stations.
The Assembly elections in Assam, Kerala and Puducherry are being closely watched, with major political parties seeking to strengthen their presence in the regions.
In Assam, the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is aiming to retain power, while in Kerala, the contest is primarily between the Left Democratic Front (LDF) and the United Democratic Front (UDF). Puducherry is also witnessing a multi-cornered contest.
The Election Commission has urged voters to follow guidelines while casting their votes and has reiterated its commitment to ensuring free and fair elections. Polling is being conducted under standard protocols to maintain order and transparency in the process.
Modi’s appeal reflects a broader effort by political leadership to encourage maximum voter participation during elections, which is considered a key indicator of democratic engagement.
The outcome of the elections will determine the composition of the next governments in the respective regions, making voter participation a critical element in shaping the political landscape.
