Two United States nationals were detained at Srinagar International Airport after security personnel recovered a satellite phone from their luggage during routine screening, officials said.
The incident took place on April 19 when airport security flagged the device during baggage checks. The two individuals were questioned at the airport and later handed over to local police for further investigation.

One of the detained individuals has been identified as Jeoffery Scot, from whose baggage the satellite communication device was recovered, according to reports.
Satellite phones are strictly regulated in India and cannot be used or carried without prior permission from the government. Authorities said unauthorised possession of such devices can lead to detention, seizure, and legal action under provisions of the Indian Telegraph Act and related security regulations.
Officials have not disclosed the purpose for which the device was being carried. Investigations are ongoing to determine whether any rules were knowingly violated.
India enforces stringent restrictions on satellite communication devices due to security concerns, particularly in sensitive regions such as Jammu and Kashmir. Past incidents have also seen both foreign nationals and Indian citizens detained or questioned for carrying similar equipment without authorisation.
The two US nationals remain under questioning as authorities continue their probe into the matter.
