NIA takes charge of investigation as Indian forces brace for potential strikes against terror networks across the border.

In the wake of the devastating terror attack in Pahalgam that claimed 26 lives, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on April 27 delivered a stern warning, promising the "harshest response" against those responsible.
In his monthly 'Mann Ki Baat' address, Modi expressed "deep agony" over the killings and called for unwavering national resolve.

“The solidarity of 1.4 billion Indians in the fight against terrorism is our greatest strength," Modi said. "We, as a nation, must demonstrate strong willpower. Every Indian is seething with anger, and the nation is united in grief and resolve."
The attack, which mainly targeted tourists in Kashmir's Pahalgam, has triggered a series of high-level security and diplomatic responses. According to top government sources, India is actively considering a range of "retaliatory" military options.
"There will be military retaliation and we are prepared," a senior official was quoted as saying, adding that discussions are underway about the "nature of the strike" with an option to target terrorist camps within India's own borders.
Meanwhile, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) has officially taken over the probe from Jammu and Kashmir Police, on orders from the Union Home Ministry.
NIA teams, stationed at the attack site since April 23, have intensified efforts to gather evidence, questioning eyewitnesses and scrutinizing all entry and exit points.
Meanwhile, tensions remain high along the Line of Control (LoC). Pakistani troops have reportedly engaged in "unprovoked firing" for three consecutive nights, to which the Indian Army has responded with "appropriate small arms fire," officials confirmed.

Modi linked the timing of the attack to Kashmir’s recent signs of peace and revival. "Terrorists and their handlers are desperate," Modi said, highlighting the resurgence of tourism, strengthening democracy, and growing youth opportunities in the region.
Reaffirming India’s commitment to its fight against terror, Modi said, “The whole world stands with India in this battle.”
With investigations tightening and military options on the table, India’s response is poised to send a clear and unyielding message to the perpetrators — and their backers.
