Prime Minister Narendra Modi on May 23 distributed more than 51,000 appointment letters to newly recruited candidates during the 19th edition of the Rozgar Mela, as part of the Centre’s employment generation initiative.

The appointment letters were distributed through video conferencing to recruits selected for various ministries and departments of the central government, including Railways, Home Affairs, Health and Family Welfare, Financial Services and Higher Education.

Addressing the newly appointed candidates, Modi said the recruits would become “key partners” in India’s development journey and play an important role in the government’s vision of building a “Viksit Bharat” by 2047.

“Today, more than 51,000 young people have received appointment letters for government jobs,” the Prime Minister said during the event.

The Rozgar Mela initiative was launched to accelerate recruitment across government departments and institutions. According to the Prime Minister’s Office, around 12 lakh appointment letters have been issued through 18 previous Rozgar Melas held across the country.

The 19th Rozgar Mela was organised across 47 locations nationwide.

During his address, Modi highlighted India’s expanding investments in semiconductors, electronics manufacturing, shipbuilding, aviation maintenance and green technology, saying these sectors would generate large-scale employment opportunities for Indian youth in the coming years.

He said India was building a “complete semiconductor supply chain” and claimed that at least 10 major semiconductor units from India would make a global mark in the near future.

Referring to his recent international visits, Modi said global confidence in India’s technology sector and youth workforce was increasing. He mentioned collaborations with countries including the Netherlands, Sweden, Norway, Italy and the UAE in areas such as semiconductors, artificial intelligence, maritime cooperation and clean energy.

The Prime Minister also stressed that government employees should approach public service with “sensitivity and commitment”, adding that citizens place significant trust in public institutions.

The Rozgar Mela comes amid continued political debate around employment generation and youth unemployment in the country. The Centre has repeatedly projected the initiative as part of its broader push to fast-track government recruitment and expand job opportunities for young people.
