Unprovoked firing by Pakistani troops escalates tension along the LoC following India’s suspension of the Indus Water Treaty in the wake of a brutal terror attack in Pahalgam that claimed 26 civilian lives.

For the fifth consecutive night, Pakistani troops opened unprovoked fire across the Line of Control (LoC), targeting multiple sectors in Jammu and Kashmir, according to the Indian Army.
In the latest incident during the intervening night of April 28-29, Pakistani Army posts directed small arms fire toward Indian positions opposite Kupwara, Baramulla, and the Akhnoor sector, Defense PRO Lt. Col. Suneel Bartwal confirmed.

The Indian Army responded with "measured and effective retaliation", Bartwal said.
This string of ceasefire violations began April 24 night, just hours after India suspended the Indus Water Treaty in the wake of a brutal terror attack in Pahalgam that claimed 26 civilian lives.
Since then, Pakistani forces have repeatedly targeted forward areas along the LoC in a marked escalation of hostilities. Earlier, on the night of April 27-28, Pakistani troops also initiated firing across the LoC in sectors opposite Kupwara and Poonch, according to army.
Despite the repeated provocations, there have been no reported casualties on the Indian side.
